“DESIGNER OF THE YEAR” CRISTINA CELESTINO AT THIS YEAR’S MAISON & OBJET EXHIBITION
The ‘Designer of the Year’ award at this year’s Maison & Objet in Paris went to Cristina Celestino• the architect-turned-designer created an elegant restaurant where guests could chat, dine and relax, which was in the name “Palais Exotic”.
“Proud” of the honor, Celestino said: “It is important for an Italian designer to be selected by a French exhibition. Especially since my work has always had a strong connection with this country.” Having studied architecture and started her career as an architect, Celestino moved into interior design, their furniture and collaborated with houses such as FENDI. She opened her own studio in 2013 and devoted herself to her own design philosophy which explores today’s interaction with French art and the Italian Renaissance, reports APE-MPE.
The inspiration for the “Palais Exotique” was the City of Light. “The cafe has no commercial character. Unlike the rest of the exhibition, the products are placed in relation to the environment rather than displayed. People can sit, chat and enjoy a more luxurious experience inside the space,” he said, speaking to Designboom (https://www.instagram.com/p/CiP6OAJtAWH/).
