NEW TECHNICAL REGULATION FOR INSTALLATIONS OF FTTH OPTICAL FIBER NETWORKS IN BUILDINGS

A modern framework of technical specifications for the installation of optical fiber networks inside buildings, “which is fully harmonized with current technological developments and European and international standards, is established by the Joint Ministerial Decision (Government Gazette B’ 7037) signed by the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou and the Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikolaos Tagaras”, reports APE-MPE.
According to a related announcement: “This is essentially about the validation of the new Technical Regulation for the installations of FTTH (Fiber to the Home) optical fiber networks inside buildings. With this specific decision, the Technical Regulation of Internal Electronic Communications Networks (KEDIE) in force since 2012 (Government Gazette B’ 2776) is updated and a long-standing need is met, as in sectors with such rapid development rates, the corresponding adjustment of technical standards is also necessary. The new Regulation provides that there will be a study of the implementation of the optical fiber network, before their installation in the existing buildings and building complex. In addition, the specificities of the facilities should be taken into account when drafting the study, so that the network serves all existing and future subscribers.
At the same time, in the buildings under construction, provision must be made for modern and reliable networks in order to provide ultra-high speed services to end users. All places where a fiber optic network has been installed must be marked accordingly and undergo checks and tests that will certify that they follow KEDIE’s standards.” “With the new legal framework, an important step is taken, so that all buildings, existing and newly built, can ensure modern and open infrastructures and facilitate the adoption of technologies that make them “smart”” concludes the announcement.
